The original “above the floor” patio heater since 1984.  Don’t settle for everyone else’s copy when you can have the standard patio heater used in restaurants for decades.  Available in Black or Stainless Steel, the Sunpak® Models S25 & S34 are outdoor rated heaters available for use with natural or propane gas.  These heaters can be either wall or ceiling mounted. The mounting kit allows this heater to be mounted from above keeping the patio deck free and clear.  Heat coverage varies depending on the wind exposure but is approximately a 10 x 10 ft area.  Typical mounting height is 8-9 feet from the floor.

The required clearance from combustible materials must be maintained on all heaters. In addition heaters must have adequate fresh air and ventilation to operate properly. Make sure you can meet these requirements in making your heater selection.

S25 offers a lower radiant heat output which allows this heater to be located in patios with limited ceiling height. This heater requires a 24 VAC source and switch or timer or other control device.

Frequently Asked Questions

What transformer is required? For a single heater, any brand transformer with the following specs will work:  24 VAC – 20VA (minimum)  Each heater requires 20VA, if two heaters are used, the transformer will need to be 40VA.  Five heaters would require 100VA and so on.
What kind of switch do I use? Can I use a thermostat?

Most installers utilize a simple wall switch.  Another option would be a timer switch carried by most “big box” stores.

What about a thermostat?  Not recommend.  Infrared energy passes through the air and heats people and objects directly.  Since thermostats measure air temperature they won’t work outside.  The heaters might never turn off.

How many heaters do I need? As a general rule of thumb, each Sunpak heater will heat approx. 10 x 10 ft of area.  A 10 x 20 ft patio would use two heaters.  Remember that with infrared, the heater will only heat things it can shine on.  Heaters should be positioned so they “shine” where the people will be.
What is the recommended mounting height for a Sunpak Heater? Heaters mounted between 8-9 ft from the floor seem to hit the “sweet spot”.  7ft is considered the minimum.  Anything below this becomes a safety issue and will most likely be too intense to stand under.  Heaters mounted over 10ft are less effective.
What is the minimum ceiling height needed?

SHORT ANSWER: 8 ft 5 in.

We recommend for safety reasons that no patio heater should be installed below 7ft from the floor.  Working backwards and taking into account the clearance requirements.  The following guide can be used.

S25 in horizontal position (pointed straight down) requires 8’5″ floor to ceiling distance.

S25 at 30° angle requires 8’10” floor to ceiling distance

S34 in horizontal position requires 9′ floor to ceiling distance

S34 at 30° angle requires 9’5″ floor to ceiling distance

Can I upgrade my older S34 to be two-stage?

No.  The TSH model uses a completely different valve and other parts that are not designed to be dropped into the standard units.

Is there a conversion kit for Nat Gas to Propane?

No.  However with the right parts, it is possible to convert between gas types.   Contact us for help on conversions.

Warning: If the procedure is done incorrectly, potential fire and death can occur.
