FireBall sets are a contemporary, modern alternative to traditional gas logs. This set of fireplace balls has 7 color options. "Natural" is the tannish gray of the base material. The other colors are our proprietary ceramic stain coloration. We recommend darker colors (Black, Dark Gray, & Brown) as the burner will create soot from the natural, luminous yellow flame. The black soot is more noticeable against the lighter colors (Natural, Adobe Red, Beige, & Light Gray); with the darker colors there is less contrast, so the soot is not as pronounced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use your logs (or FireBalls, FireShapes or FireStones) in Gas Fireplace with a B-Vent or Direct Vent?

Rasmussen manufactures gas logs and alternatives (such as FireStones, FireBalls and FireShapes) for use in fireplaces in which it is safe to burn wood. If your fireplace is a wood-burning fireplace, you can replace the gas log set with a better Rasmussen set. However, if your fireplace is a gas fireplace appliance, which is certified to ANSI Z21.50 national standard, or a direct vent fireplace, which is certified to ANSI Z21.88, then you can make no alteration to the fireplace without compromising safety and voiding any warranty and certification. Gas fireplaces are designed as a complete appliance. All components interrelate. Any change in the logs could negatively affect the combustion performance. Any increase in BTU input or flame pattern could result in excessive heat or inadequate venting of the combustion products. Additionally, most gas fireplaces are constructed with a "B-vent", which is inadequate for venting of gas log sets such as those made by Rasmussen. In short, you are stuck forever with the burner and logs that come with the gas fireplace/direct vent appliance.

Can I use Rasmussen FireBalls on a Log Grate?

No. We intend for Uniform FireBalls to only be used with the Custom Pan Burner (CS), and Mixed FireBalls on the CS or Custom Embers Pan Burner (CXF), where the FireBalls are set on the sand bed and the flames flow softly around the balls. When FireBalls are used on a grate, the flames strike the bottom of the balls harshly, and can cause the material to breakdown, which is not a warrantable condition.

Logs (or FireBalls, FireShapes or FireStones) have a white residue?

The white residue is called “efflorescence” or “blooming”. You may have seen this in brick walls coming form the mortar joints or on sidewalks. It is where the salts in the concrete migrate to the surface of the material. It is a condition that we cannot control, but it does not affect the integrity of the log. To remove it, In many cases, merely spraying the area with water will neutralize and eliminate the white. Sometimes additional water spray application or wiping with a damp cloth is needed.
