A Direct-Vent system uses two vent pipes. One draws air in from outdoors to support combustion. The other exhausts the by-products of combustion to the outside. The two vent pipes may be concentric (exhaust pipe within a larger diameter intake pipe) or co-linear (separate pipes of about the same size).
Combustion takes place inside a sealed chamber – with a glass front in the case of a fireplace. Room air circulates around the combustion chamber, often assisted by a blower, to heat the room.
A DV system is often installed along an outside wall to simplify the vent run, but can also be installed elsewhere in the home and vented through the roof.
The Rushmore Series
With its massive log set, deep ember bed, dual burner and huge ceramic glass front, the Rushmore is one great-looking fireplace, but what you can’t see makes this fireplace even more impressive.
Empire’s TruFlame Technology ensures maximum flames and ember glow with minimum emissions. The system starts with independently controlled front and rear burners set in a large ember bed. The burners create a tall lively fire that dances and curls around the hand-painted ceramic fiber logs – generating a continuous tableau of flame shapes and light patterns.
The Rushmore 50 features a dual burner that creates a tall lively fire, accented with the massive Forest Timber log set and large glowing ember bed. TruFlame Technology minimizes emissions while maximizing heat efficiency to produce the most realistic flames. The impressive ceramic glass front with InvisiMesh provides a 50-inch viewing area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy a fireplace online and install it myself?
We highly recommend a certified professional install all of our units. Any issues that arise from improper installation will not be covered under warranty. |
Does our product work during a power outage?
Yes, most of our appliances have the ability to be used in a power outage situation please see a local dealer for more information. |
What is the difference between Millivolt and electronic ignition fireplaces?
Millivolt fireplaces use the electricity produced by a standing pilot to operate the fireplace. Electronic ignition fireplaces rely on a power source to power the fireplace, this can be house voltage as well as battery voltage. |
Can I use a Wi-Fi Thermostat with my unit?
Our units are designed to be operated by millivolts or low voltage, most Wi-Fi thermostats use 24volts and are not compatible. |
Where can I find my model and serial number?
There is a rating plate attached to the valve of your appliance that will have the model and serial number information. |
Can you tell me how old my unit is?
Once you locate your rating plate the serial number will help identify the age, the first two digits of the serial number denote the year of manufacture (21, 20, 19...) the next two digits identify the week of that year that the unit was built. |
What is the difference between a fireplace, a firebox, and an insert?
Fireplaces are designed to be installed into a framed opening with specific clearances to combustibles. Fireboxes are just like Fireplaces in terms of where they can be installed but in addition a burner and a set of logs is required to finish off the unit. Inserts are designed to be installed directly into an existing wood burning fireplace that meets all standards of construction. |
